Who we are
Katie Delahaye Paine CEO, KDPaine & Partners; Publisher The Measurement Standard; http://kdpaine.blogs.com
Katie Delahaye Paine is the founder and CEO of KDPaine & Partners LLC, a New Hampshire based research consultancy that provides measurement and accountability for corporations, non-profits and government agencies world wide. Her book, Measuring Public Relationships: the Data-Driven Communicator’s guide to Measuring Public Relationships was published in December 2007. Paine is the publisher of KDPaine’s Measurement Blog and The Measurement Standard, the first blog and the first newsletter for marketing and communications professionals dedicated entirely to measurement and accountability. Prior to launching KDPaine & Partners in 2002, Paine was the founder and president of The Delahaye Group, which she sold to Medialink in 1999.
For the past two decades, Paine has been providing marketers and communications professionals the tools, data and information to help them make better business decisions. She and her firms have read and analyzed millions of news articles, blogs, newsgroup postings and internal communications and have conducted hundreds of thousands of interviews in the relentless pursuit of quantitative and qualitative measures of her client’s marketing success. She works with some of the world’s most admired companies including Raytheon, Allstate, Facebook, and Southwest Airlines. Most recently, her endeavors have been focused on social media measurement as well as providing cost effective measurement programs for non-profits, small businesses and government agencies.
Paine was named the 2007 NH Woman Business Owner of the Year by the Small Business Administration. KDPaine & Partners’ measurement program for the American Society of Plastic Surgeons was recently awarded the PRNews 2007 Platinum Award for Research and Measurement. In 2006 she was named the Entrepreneurial Venture Creator Person of the Year by the University of New Hampshire and won the Business Excellence Award for Excellence in Media & Marketing from New Hampshire Business Review. A Cum Laude graduate of Connecticut College's class of 1974, Katie majored in history and Asian studies. She received an Honorary Doctorate of Laws from New Hampshire College in May 1996. She is an Athena award winner and a Board member of the New Hampshire Political Library. Her life is featured in Mark Albion’s book, “Making a life, making a living.”
Katie was an initial founder and former chair of the Institute for Public Relations special commission on measurement and evaluation. She served as the US liaison to the European Standards Task Force to set international standards for media evaluation. She writes a regular column for PR News on corporate image and crisis communications and contributes to PRNews, Communications World, PR Week, Business Marketing and New Hampshire Magazine .
Prior to founding The Delahaye Group, Paine was the director of corporate communications for Lotus Development Corporation, and previously was manager of merchandising for Hewlett-Packard Personal Computer Group.
An accomplished speaker, Paine frequently lectures to conferences and universities including The American Strategic Management Institute, the Public Relations Society of America, the International Association of Business Communicators, and the Institute for International Research, the International Public Relations Research Conference, Ragan Communications Conferences, the PR Executive Forum, IPRA, the University of New Hampshire and Southern New Hampshire University.
Katie writes the world's first measurement blog. Check it out at http://kdpaine.blogs.com.
Olivier Gaudissart – Co-founder and Software Architect Olivier 'Oli' Gaudissart was first introduced to the concept of PR Measurement in 1988, just as he was graduating from the University of New Hampshire with a degree in finance. His first reaction to Katie Paine's description of what she was doing was "You are very stupid." He went off to France and wrote a 900-line macro that accomplished (in thirty seconds) what it was taking Paine and her staff three days to do. He's been contributing to Paine’s success ever since. His influence enabled Paine's first company, The Delahaye Group, to go international in 1992, and his technological expertise is the core foundation on which KDPaine & Partners was built. He lives in Kittery, Maine, with his wife and high school sweetheart, Claire, and his two daughters, Chloe and Morgane. On most summer nights, when not swearing over his laptop, he can be found racing sailboats in Portsmouth Harbor.
William Teunis Paarlberg Bill Paarlberg is an illustrator, graphic designer, marketing consultant and editor who, although he has been writing about PR measurement since 1990, claims he is still trying to decide what to do when he grows up. In the 1980s he founded and ran re:Ports. Magazine, a witty and irreverent weekly arts magazine about Portsmouth, New Hampshire. After four years he sold re:Ports, and began publishing newsletters for local businesses including The Gauge for The Delahaye Group. Under Bill's editorship, The Gauge (now operated by Delahaye Medialink) was transformed from a sleepy internal newsletter with 0% name recognition into one of the most well-read and authoritative publications in the measurement field. (Or, as he likes to say, "The least boring newsletter in PR measurement.") A man of many talents and many more interests, his pen and ink drawings and architectural renderings have appeared in numerous posters, prints and calendars around Seacoast New Hampshire. Bill holds degrees from Oberlin College and Indiana University, where he carried out and published original research on human short-term memory and attention. In his youth he was a Category One USCF cyclist; in his incipient maturity he is an avid snowboarder and mountain biker, and is President of the Board of the local Land Trust. He lives with his daughter, two cats, a hamster and a varying number of goldfish in Kittery Point, Maine.
Jeremy Willis – V.P. Client Management New Jersey native, Jeremy Willis was one of the first employees of KDPaine & Partners' and he continues to manage many of its accounts. A 1999 graduate of the University of New Hampshire, Jeremy majored in communications with a minor in business administration. A former Shankhassick Farm resident, Jeremy mastered the KDPaine & Partners analysis system in one afternoon proving either that he's a genius, or that the system is much simpler to understand than anything we've ever done before. Before he entered the exciting field of media research, he managed publicity for a national touring rock and roll band.
Bruce Aube - Senior Account Manager Bruce is another angel that was brave enough to try round two with Katie. The former director of survey research at Delahaye, Bruce was doing the 3 hour a day commute to Boston in the summer of 2005 when he heard KDPaine & Partners was hiring. A graduate of the University of New Hampshire, Bruce is our numbers guy since he majored in Mathematics and Statistics. More recently, he has been the driving force in establishing KDPaine's presence in Berlin, New Hampshire as a senior account manager, numbers guru, sounding board and anything else we send his way. He was born in Tapei, Taiwan and grew up in Rochester, NH.
Michael Layton - Dashboard Champion Mike Layton is our Dashboard Champion, managing all the DIYDashboard accounts. A local graduate of the University of New Hampshire and the NHCTC, Mike is melded from an educational mix of business and technology. His previous work experience can best be described by the quote: “That which does not kill us, makes us stronger” – Friedrich Nietzsche. Mike was saved from the clutches of the “Dark Side” by Oli back in September 2005. Mike lives in Dover, New Hampshire and on February 18, 2006 he tied the knot with his companion Meghan. They live happily ever after with their cat, Stinky, and in early December they welcomed their daughter and firstborn (and our first official Baby Paineiac!) into the world. Mike is also the company’s webmaster and all around helpful guy.
Terry Aube - Account Manager & Team Leader The only thing better than one Aube is two Aubes. Bruce lured his brother Terry into the office one day and we haven’t let him go since. Prior to joining KDPaine & Partners, Terry served in the US Air Force for over 10 years, having earned many medals and achievements while fighting the war on terrorism. With two tours of Iraq under his belt, being chained to a desk in the beautiful North Country isn’t so bad – even when the power goes out and the air conditioning doesn’t work. Terry is also one of our Berlin experts, having spent some of his formative years there.
Alice Brink, ABC, APR Alice Brink is president of A Brink & Co., a firm which provides public relations and measurement services that help businesses and non-profits achieve measurable results. In addition to providing media content analysis for KDPaine & Partners, she works with clients including Shell Oil Company, Compass Bank, and Yellow Cab of Houston. Prior to launching her business in 2004, she was senior vice president of a Houston-based national public relations firm, where she developed an award-winning measurement model to guide development of client objectives and measures. An accomplished speaker on public relations and measurement issues, Brink has nearly 30 years of experience in corporate communications and public relations, including work for The Coca-Cola Company, Tenneco, and First Interstate Bank. Her community involvement includes pro bono work for the local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness and for Adoptation, a Houston partnership that works to place children from foster care into permanent adoptive homes. She serves on the local boards of IABC and the PR Foundation of Houston.
Gabriela Carrau Gabriela Carrau first met Katie Paine at a cocktail party in the seaside resort of Punta Del Este, Uruguay. As Paine sat hunched over her laptop, Gabriela politely inquired as to what she was doing. When Katie explained in very general terms that she was analyzing media for an American company, Gabriela confessed that, in fact, her senior thesis at University was in Media Analysis. A year later, Gabriela began working as a freelancer for what was then The Delahaye Group. A former reporter, Ms. Carrau has been championing the cause of measurement in Latin America ever since, most recently producing the Spanish Edition of The Measurement Standard. She works out of Montevideo, Uruguay (when she isn't escaping to Punta Del Este). She holds a degree in Communications and has extensive marketing communications and journalistic experience.
Peter Kowalski – Project Manager Peter Kowalski joins KDPaine & Partners to support Olivier Gaudissart. A public relations research fanatic, Peter can be seen on the banks of the Piscatequa River with the latest issue of “Public Relations Review" taking notes on statistical analyses or reading the latest work on content analysis. He holds a B.A. in Public Relations and Russian from the University of Southern California, Annenberg School of Journalism. While there, he worked closely with Dr. Craig Carroll on projects involving computer-based text analysis for campaign measurement, Weblog taxonomy and editorial-page content analysis. Peter’s professional experience includes work at Lieberman Research Worldwide in qualitative research and in public relations with both Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles and GCI Group. Peter grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Jessica Paradis - Data Champion Jessica Paradis is another one of KDPaine’s North Country pioneers in our Berlin office. She brings with her several years of customer service experience in a variety of settings, including retail consulting at White Mountain Wireless, a US Cellular agency. During her time at Hesser College in Manchester, Jessica focused her energies on accounting and business management studies. At KDPaine, we're privileged to have this North Country native utilize those ace analytical skills to evaluate media clippings for several KDPaine clients.
Erica Steller - Account Executive Erica Steller has joined KDPaine & Partners in our Berlin office this November and brings with her a strong work ethic and excellent critical thinking skills. Erica’s eclectic background includes web design, publishing and management. At Kaiboo, she designed and maintained their retail website and handled the publishing of their newsletter. She's also utilized her management skills at both Super Shoe Store and Whitefield Senior Meals. A graduate of the College for Lifelong Learning, Erica is currently pursuing her Masters in Criminal Justice at Boston University.
Retha Fielding, APR – Writer Retha Fielding joins KDPaine in our seacoast office as our newest writer. An accomplished communicator in her own right, Retha has devoted her career to public relations in both business and academia. A native of the Lone Star State, Retha has enjoyed living in New Hampshire for the past fourteen years. She spent the past five of those years serving as Vice President of Institutional Advancement at Plymouth State University and holds an MBA from the same. Retha’s communications savvy and superior writing skills have already proven useful in her new role as writer here at KDPaine. We are very fortunate to have her on our team!
Sheila Papaleo – Accounting & Marketing Support Sheila Papaleo joined KDPaine & Partners in February 2007 as part of our North Country crew. She holds an Associate's degree in Criminal Justice Studies from Camden County Community College (Blackwood, NJ) and a Bachelor's in Business Administration and Finance from the College of New Jersey (Ewing, NJ) with a Minor in Law & Justice. Born in Philadelphia and raised in New Jersey, Sheila relocated to New Hampshire’s White Mountain region in 2006 and thoroughly enjoys living in New England. She brings with her exceptional organizational skills, contagious optimism and a plethora of Accounting experience which spans the hospitality, property management, and manufacturing industries. We consider ourselves very fortunate to add Marketing Support to that list and welcome her aboard!
Suzanne Colburn - Account Executive Suzanne joined KD Paine & Partners in March of 2007, bringing her extraordinary dedication and cheerful personality to the Berlin, NH Team. Suzanne was previously Library Director at a local library and had worked in the library field, in various positions, before that. She also worked as an antiques consignor and manager at a local antiques store for the first couple of years out of college. Suzanne graduated from New Hampshire Community Technical College in Berlin with a degree in Arts and Sciences. Suzanne is happily married to her husband Andrew and has two cats. She is a woman of many pursuits and hobbies, who especially loves to read, bake, travel and go riding with her husband on their motorcycle.
Katie Wilmot - Senior Data Analyst Katie Wilmot joined the Berlin Team in April 2007. Katie earned a degree in Cosmetology from Empire Beauty School and worked in salons in her hometown of Meredith, NH as well as Berlin. Before perfecting her skills as a media data analyst, she devoted her time to a worthy cause – a volunteer for the Berlin Housing Authority, where she created and maintained databases. When she’s not engrossed in the art of public relations measurement, Katie enjoys spending time with her husband Robert and her three sons, Joshua, Cooper, and Carter. We consider ourselves lucky to have found such a dedicated and skilled employee and expect her to be a permanent fixture at KDPaine & Partners.
Stacey Falardeau - Senior Data Analyst Stacey is one of the newer members of the KDPaine & Partners Team, joining us in December 2007. Born and raised in New Hampshire, she graduated from Berlin High and later attended New Hampshire Community Technical College. When not hard at work reading, cleaning and coding data, Stacey loves to spend time with her boyfriend Shawn and her three-year-old son, Landyn. Stacey and Shawn like to surround themselves with family and close friends, and enjoy the occasional game of ice hockey. Stacey is hard-working, dedicated and energetic. We look forward to having her on the Berlin Team well into the future!
